Bulgarian Children Sold to Greeks

Bulgaria-romaAs published on bTV, many Bulgarian children are being sold to Greek couples.

It seems that there is a well-organised network that also include Bulgarian custom officers and Greek citizens. They often accommodate pregnant Bulgarian Roma women in order to give birth in Greece and then sell their children. Many Roma, as reported on bTV, say that the price for a Bulgarian baby is 5,000 euros.

According to Nadka Chakurova, a neighbor of little Maria’s parents, in Bulgaria, 5,000 euros are enough for a family to buy a house and feed the rest of the children. They live in poverty and that money is their chance to escape and live a better life.

Maria’s mother, Sasa Ruseva, denied having sold her child, but her neighbors claim that she was paid a small amount of money.

According to sources, when Ruseva, went to Greece, she already had six children. They lived alone for nearly a year and were managing to survive thanks to the charity and help of the neighborhood.

After the adventure of the little blond girl found in Greece, authorities in both countries investigate similar cases. During the past three years, the district prosecutor initiated 37 proceedings for human trafficking. Thirty persons were accused and imprisoned.
