COE Calls Turkey to Compensate Greek-Cypriots

Council of EuropeThe Ministers Committee of the Council of Europe (COE), the competent authority for supervising the proper execution of sentences of the European Court of Human Rights, has today adopted an Interim Resolution, calling on Turkey to pay the compensations to Greek-Cypriot beneficiaries of properties in the occupied part of Cyprus.

The Interim Resolution underlines that Turkey is obligated to pay 8,000 euros to all property holders in occupied Cyprus and to bear the legal costs and expenses.

The Committee expresses its deep regret over Turkey and the fact that Turkey has not yet complied with this obligation, and urges the country to pay without further delay, the amounts adjudicated to Greek-Cypriot beneficiaries, together with default interest due.
