Israel-Cyprus-Greece Energy, Water Deal

shalomSilvan Shalom, Israeli Minister of Energy and Water Resources, characterized the signing of the cooperation memorandum on energy and water resources between Israel, Cyprus and Greece as a fact of “historical significance”.

The memorandum will be signed on Aug. 8 by Shalom, George Lakkotrypis, Cyprus’ Energy Minister, and Yiannis Maniatis, Greek Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change.

Shalom, who met with Nikos Kougialis, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, stated that he wass in Cyprus in order to contribute to the promotion of issues of energy and natural resources, as well as of the issue of electricity interconnection of the three countries through an underwater cable.

He noted that the relations between Cyprus and Israel are now better than ever, adding that the memorandum’s signing will contribute to the further strengthening of relations between the three countries.

The Cypriot Minister reported that a new cooperation between Cyprus and Israel will begin at the domain of urban wastewater treatment and the use of recycled water in agriculture.
