Albania’s Greeks Want Political Plums

OmoniaAfter the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, announced his new government in which no minister from the Greek minority participates, the organization Omonoia, a social, political and cultural organization inĀ  Albania that promotes minority rights for the Greek minority in the south of the country, reacted strongly. It denounced that this is the first time after the fall of the Communist regime that there is not a single minister from the Greek Diaspora in the government.

Omonoia, through a press release, reported that this approach reinforces its concerns onĀ  the issue of the Greek national minority and pointed out that the ā€œnon-presence of a minister of Greek descent in the new government, although this has been a tactic of every government since 1991, forces us to immediately suggest that the Human Rights Union Party reconsider and reorient its relations with the Socialist Party based on the current developments.ā€

ā€œThis is not about petty political interests, but fundamental issues that are directly related to the delicate position of Greeks in Albania,ā€ Omonoiaā€™s announcement concluded.
