Greek-Turkish Agreement on New Road Bridge

tromaktikoIn Edirne, also known by its old name Adrianople, a city in the northwestern part of Turkey, a protocol of agreement was signed by  Greece and Turkey concerning the construction of a new road bridge at Kipoi, Feres in the Evros regional unit in northeastern Greece.

To this purpose, a joint committee on the planning and monitoring of the project was established in 2006 which worked all the previous years until June 26, 2013, when the final agreement was signed.

The new bridge will be constructed 7.5 meters south of the existing one, will be higher and have four lanes (two per direction). In the protocol all the technical details were agreed on, while at the same time the initial drawings were signed and a technical report written by an experts’ subcommittee.

On the Greek side the study of the project will be completed and auctioned by EGNATIA ODOS SA and on the Turkish side by the State Authority for Highways (KGM)

The geostrategic role of the region of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace is significantly upgraded by the construction of the new bridge as well as the sector of international land transports.
