European Media on New Greek Government

diethnis_typos180_65404_49E24E_bThe European media are bombarded with news of the new government in Greece, highlighting the enhanced presence of PASOK.

“The main protagonists of the new government are the old ones, the same applies to the problems,” German Die Welt notes. As underlined in the article, the most important change has been PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos assuming the Foreign Ministry and vice-presidency of the government. ”

The government crisis was averted, Bild observes, noting that both Conservatives and Socialists managed to agree on a new coalition government.

The Frankfurter Rundschau also writes: Greece once again becomes a government capable of taking action. The new coalition government which consists of Conservatives and Socialists, is formed.

The  British Guardian article’s headline is, Eurozone crisis live: Greek PM reshuffles cabinet as European stock markets recover.”

Furthemore, Hürriyet daily comments on Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’ call to reshuffle his government, naming Evangelos Venizelos as foreign minister and deputy prime minister. Among other things stated, it is highlighted that PASOK’s decision to stick with Samaras’ conservative New Democracy party, means that the early election scenario has finally been avoided.
