One more great success for Greek rowing. Aikaterini Nikolaidou won the gold medal in the 2013 European Rowing Championship that took place in Seville, Spain.

The Greek champion’s performance in the women’s lightweight single sculls was exceptional. Despite the tough head-wind conditions, Nikolaidou did a very fast final sprint that gave her the first place with a time of 8:32.92.

“This was my first race in the lightweight single. The last 500m was the hardest part of the race. I was fighting hard with Michaela (Taupe-Traer) and it was a tight race,” Nikolaidou stated.

Michaela Taupe-Traer form Austria ranked second and Marie-Anne Frenken from Netherlands third.

In the men’s  lightweight single sculls, Spiros Yannaros ranked sixth.
