Big Jump In Austrian Bookings For Greece

GreeceAustrians are coming to Greece in droves this summer, with advance bookings showing an increase of 20-25 percent. Ioannis Afukatudis, who heads the Austrian branch of the Thomas Cook travel agency said the statistics are very encouraging for Greece.

He said Greece is benefiting from a near-cessation of images of strikes, protests and riots against austerity measures in 2012 that frightened away many would-be visitors. He said the agency expects many late bookings as well, particularly from solo travelers or couples.

According to Afukatudis, Greece will make up for what the country lost in 2012 concerning tourism in Turkey, Bulgaria and other destinations, because “all those were dancing around Greece’s corpse last year” while gaining against it. He said that 2012 will be the Year of Greece.
