Stelios Haji-Ioannou Richest Greek in UK

Haji-IoannouThe 25th anniversary issue of the Sunday Times Rich List includes the 17 richest Greeks and Greek-Cypriots in the United Kingdom.

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, who was originally listed as No. 1 on the Greek List’s first issue in 2007, compiled by Philip Beresford, has regained his number one position from Alki David.

The 45-year-old Haji-Ioannou’s fortune has increased up to 33 percent since 2012 and is now valued at GBP 1.7 billion. He is also in the 16th position in the Sunday Times Rich List’s Top 20 Fastest Growing Fortunes, as reported in the Financial Mirror.

According to his official website, Haji-Ioannou is a serial entrepreneur, best known for his EasyJet start-up in 1995, at the age of 28. After floating the massively popular budget airline on the London Stock Exchange in 2000, he stepped back to concentrate on extending the easy brand to several businesses, all dedicated to offering consumers more value for less. These include easyHotel, easyCar, easyBus, easyOffice and easyGym, all owned through his private company easyGroup. In 2006, he received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II for services to entrepreneurship. He lives in Monaco.

Among other notable entries are Sir John Zochonis in No. 42 in the Giving List, who donated GBP 6.8 million of his fortune to charity. Chris Rokos, 42-year-old retired hedge fund manager, was listed in the Political Donors List, giving 99,000 pounds to the Conservative Party. Theo Paphitis and Theo Karparthios were listed in the UK Fashion List, as reported in the Financial Mirror.
