Belgian Journalists Excited by Cretan Cuisine

1015__320x240_logocretan-cTen Belgian journalists, specialized in gastronomy, who work in daily high circulation newspapers such as La Libre Belgique, Sudpresse, La Dernière Heure and Vers l’Avenir, visited Crete and expressed their enthusiasm about the quality and the nutritional value of the Cretan cuisine.

The aim of the journalists’ voyage was to experience culinary delights, to learn more about the Cretan diet and especially about olive oil, as well as about the island’s local products.

They had the chance to taste the richness and the nutritional value of the Cretan cuisine and to try traditional dishes in a Cretan tavern with Stavros Arnaoutakis, the governor for the Crete Region.

The Belgian journalists were presented by detailed elements concerning the beneficial for the human body Cretan diet which constitutes an effective shield against cardiovascular diseases.

Arnaoutakis said that it is scientifically recognized that the properties of Cretan cuisine are unique and healthful for the human organism. In addition, he mentioned that in the last years, a serious effort is being made to connect the Cretan diet with tourism and the results are positive as the gastronomic tourism percentages rise constantly. The Governor of the Cretan Region informed the foreign press representatives about the Quality Label of Cretan Cuisine that the Cretan Region has established, which aims at the participation of restaurants around Crete, in order to create a relation of trust with the consumers and promotes the destination as a gastronomy destination.

The Belgian journalists, who were accompanied by Eleni Skarveli, Director of the Greek National Tourism Organization offices in Belgium and Luxembourg, appeared excited about the value of the Cretan cuisine and about their tour in the island.
