Odyssey At Milan’s Piccolo Teatro Gains Raves

odysseia-robert-wilsonThe audience of the Piccolo Teatro welcomed with enthusiasm the performance Odyssey by Robert Wilson, at the premiere which was held on April 2, in the historic Italian theater of Milan. The Greek National Theater’s production was presented in Athens last October to mid-March and the cast had been in Italy for rehearsal since March 27.

The American theater director was also there and along with his colleagues and the Greek troupe were applauded for 15 minutes. Odyssey will be played for three weeks until April 24.

The performance in the Greek language is based on Homer’s epic and follows the Odysseus’s journey until he reaches Ithaca. With high aesthetic images, excellent performances, stunning sets and costumes, Wilson managed to capture the essence of the epic, in a performance that flows like a fairy tale.

Odyssey is a co-production between the National Theatre of Greece and Piccolo Teatro, which produced the scenery and costumes. Stavros Zalmas holds the role of Odysseus. Other performers included: Nikitas Tsakiroglou, Lydia Koniordou, Maria Naupliotou Alexandros Mylonas, Akis Sakellariou, Zeta Douka, Apostolis Totsikas, Kosmas Fontoukis, Vicky Papadopoulou, George Tsampourakis, George Glastras, Constantine Avarikiotis, Lena Papaligoura, Mariana Kavalieratou, George Tzavaras, Thanassis Akokkalidis. Thodoris Oikonomou is on the piano.

The translation of the theatrical piece in Greek and drama support were made by George Depastas.
