Atlantis Fantasy Drama on BBC

Juliet-StevensonBBC is going to replace Merlin in the schedules with a Greek myth family adventure show, Atlantis, written by Misfits’ Howard Overman. This new fantasy drama, that will travel us to the legendary island of Atlantis, featuring Mark Addy and Juliet Stevenson in the leading roles. Sarah Parish, Jemina Rooper, Robert Emms, Aiysha Hart and Jack Donnelly will complete the cast.

Atlantis, which will consist of 13 parts, is due to start filming in April and will be on UK’s screens this autumn. The set for Atlantis is being constructed at sites in Wales and Morocco.

Addy told The Independent: “The scripts bring to life ancient myths with such a vibrancy and sense of humor – I knew I wanted to be a part of it.”

The English actor of stage and screen Stevenson said: “This genre is new to me, so I am looking forward to a great adventure.”

Ben Stephenson, controller of drama commissioning at the BBC since September 2008,  said: “Some of the UK’s best loved actors are joining our newest talent to take the BBC1 audience to a rich and wonderful world where any adventure is possible.”
