Children’s Dreams Win First Prize

9db3c25385e475d15ca4e31dbb45f490During the 9th International Poetry Competition Castello Di Duino, which was held in Trieste,  Italy, sixth grade students of Papados elementary school in Lesvos, won the first prize for the poem Children’s Dreams.

The award ceremony will take place on March 24th, while the young poets who excelled among 70 schools decided to offer the prize amount to charity.

Among others, Chalkida’s 6th High School, with the poem, The future … a place in the world, and Tripoli’s 2nd High School, with the poem. Migration – present and future, distinguished themselves in the annual poems publications.

Greece’s participation was an initiative of Hestia, the Greek Culture Foundation in Italy, in collaboration with the Greek Ministry of Education. This competition is organized by the cultural association Poetry and Solidarity, in cooperation with local authorities and with the support of UNESCO.

This poetry competition, which is considered as one of the most important internationally, is addressed to young people up to 30 years old and to schools. So far, about 6,750 people have participated. This year, 950 poems written in 75 different languages ​​and 70 schools took part.
