“Evzones” in Brussels Protest Austerity

TSOLIADES_523_355Thousands of protesters rallied on March 14, in Brussels in order to express their opposition and anger against the austerity measures before all the EU leaders, who gathered for a summit to focus on investing in jobs.

What really made an impression, were three Greek protesters dressed in traditional Greek Evzone costumes. Neither cold nor snow could stop them. That was their way of showing their pride of being Greek, but especially their support for their country, which is struggling with one of the worst economic crises in its history.

What also seems to have drawn attention, was the statement of the Luxembourg Prime Minister and former head of the Eurogroup, Jean-Claude Juncker.

“There is a risk of a social revolution if austerity measures continue,” he said when arriving in Brussels. He also stressed that it is high time this policy stopped, given that budgetary austerity should always be combined with measures which are to promote growth.

After dinner, the 17 EU leaders  are scheduled to meet at 23:00 (CET) in the presence of ECB President, Mario Draghi as well as Eurogroup President, Jeroen Dijsselbloem.
