In Rome, Chinese Like Greek Products

greek productsMinister of Rural Development and Food, Athanasios Tsaftaris, attended a roundtable meeting in Rome to push Greek foods and goods to countries in southern Europe with China.

Tsaftaris along with his counterparts from Spain, Portugal, Italy, Malta and Cyprus, met The Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Hui Liangyu and the Chinese Deputy Minister of Agriculture.

“China is expected to feed 20% of the human population, having at its disposal only 9% of the arable land and less than 4% of water resources. On behalf of China, there is a great interest concerning the Mediterranean products, including Greek ones,” Tsaftaris told the Greek news agency ANA/MPA.

“I was really surprised that both Chinese Ministers highlighted the Greek olive oil, cotton and Greek wines,” Tsaftaris added. He said that, “Threre was a great interest concerning the imports from Mediterranean and Greece as well as the removal of the bureaucratic obstacles.”

They also discussed working together in in the research and technology fields as well. The next meeting will be held in China, thanks to the initiative and invitation of the Chinese delegation.
