Horsemeat Scandal Hits Marinopoulos Chain

on-news253-300x141Greece has been affected by the growing scandal of horsemeat being put in food products and sent to a number of European countries, with a report that some 3.7 tons of the meat was sent to the Greek supermarket chain Marinopoulos.

According to Keep Talking Greece reports, the Greek market, which is aligned with the French company Carrefour, removed two products from its deep fridges on suspicion they contain horse meat and on direction of the Greek Food Control authority, EFET.

The products Lasagna Bolognese Carrefour Cannelloni Bolognese Carrefour had been manufactured by the French company Comigel for the Findus company brand which were labeled as beef but found to have contained 100 percent horsemeat.

The Guardian newspaper in London said that Comigel, based in the north-eastern town of Metz, supplies tens of thousands of tons of frozen meals to about 15 countries. It wasn’t immediately known whether the illegal traded horsemeat has undergone health controls and whether it contains painkillers suitable for horses but not for humans.
