The World Photography Organisation (WPO) list of those who qualified for the finals of the Sony World Photography Awards 2013 contest includes three Greeks. They are Aggelos Tzortzonis in the News category, Julia Anna Gospodarou in Architectural Photography and Achilles Georgallides, among young photographers under 20 years old-in the Culture category.
Tzortzonis’ entries include shots of protesters and clashes with police in the center of Athens, while Gospodarou was inspired by the bridge on Katehaki Street, taking photos depicting specific details of its construction. Georgallides photographed the changing of the guard in Syntagma, Athens.
The work of the finalists in the competition will be exhibited at Somerset House of London and will be included in the annual volume of the Sony World Photography Awards 2013, while the Open and Junior awards will be announced on March 19. The awards of the professional category L’Iris D’Or as well as the title Professional Photographer of the Year will be announced in London on April 25.
