The Consulate of the Greek Embassy in London is dealing with serious problems due to a lack of personnel, as the Ombudsman noted. The Embassy receives complaints every day about long delays in many procedures, such as passports, certificates for permanent residency, military use, etc.
The Independent Authority has intervened to solve the problem, while the Ministry for Foreign Affairs has informed the Ombudsman it is aware of the problem and took measures to boost the consular office with qualified personnel, particularly during the period of the Olympic Games in London.
The office stated to the Foreign Ministry that there is a need for more staffing in the consular office, suggesting it be boosted with seasonal employees as well as a specialist staff in the Ministry of Public Order and Citizen Protection. The authority also noted it is necessary to take special care in emergencies, which should not be limited merely to matters of life or death.
