Belgians Taking to Greek Olive Oil

belgiumOlive oil, one of Greece’s greatest export products, is gaining in popularity in Belgium, according a report by the Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Greek Embassy in Brussels, which noted an increasing rise of the consumption of Greek olive oil,  winning 22.2 percent of the market.

Belgium imports all its olive oil needs, mainly from Spain and Italy, and less from France, Greece and Tunisia. Despite the fact that the Greek olive oil is recognized for its superior quality and high nutritional value, and its competitive price, Belgians still prefer Spanish or Italian oil.

Greek olive oil is available in the large super-markets such as Carrefour, Delhaize, as well as discount stores such as Colruyt and several stores selling Greek products. Some supermarkets are directly importing the Greek virgin olive oil while others get it through distributors.
