Greek, Cypriot Music Stirs Vienna Concert

ntalaras_karozas_4-297x300A concert to celebrate Cyprus was held at the Brahms Hall at the renowned Concert of the Society of the Friends of Music in Vienna, sponsored by the Cypriot Cultural Centre. Founded in 1812, the name of the society is connected with Nikolaos Doumpas, the Greek-Austrian businessman and patron, who was its Vice-President for many years.

The event was organized under the auspices of the Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture on the occasion of the Cyprus Presidency of the European Union.

The artists presented excerpts from the works of some composers such as Verdi, Bizet, Puccini and Ntonitseti, as well as a selection of works of leading Greek composers Mikis Theodorakis and Manos Hatzidakis and Cypriot composers Solon Michaelides and Sotiris Karageorghis.

Greetings were given by the Vice President of Cyprus Cultural Centre, Polys Polydorou. He also assured the audience of the ministry’s support for Vienna’s Cypriot Cultural Centre, whose main objective is to promote Cyprus and its culture, and strengthen relations between the  countries.
