PIASA Auctions 20th Century Greek Art

For the first time PIASA is going to stage a sale of 20th Century Greek Art in Paris. According to the organization’s website, an the exceptional ensemble of nearly 200 lots, consigned from important French and Greek private collections, will provide an unprecedented overview of the wealth and diversity of the creative output of Greek painters and sculptors working in Paris in the previous 100 years.

A special viewing will be held at the Grande-Bretagne Hotel in Athens in November. By organizing this prestige sale in Paris, PIASA turns the spotlight on Greek artists’ extraordinary contribution to Paris’ cultural aura in the second half of the 20th Century.

Works by Nikiforos Lytras, Kostantinos Parthenis, Yiannis Tsarouhas, Giorgos Gounaropoulos, Marina Karella, Alekos Fasianos and Dimitris Mitaras will be among other paintings on the block for bidders.

Some of the artists presented in the PIASA sale are already stars on the art market, and others might be. With the generation of artists born in the 1920’s and who arrived in Paris in the early 1950’s, gradually dying out, the auction provides a chance to obtain art that is among the most important of Greeks of the 20th Century.
