London Gate Theatre Shows Euripides’ Trojan Women

A new adaptation of Euripide’s famous tragedy The Trojan Women (Troades in Greek) will run at the London Gate Theatre Nov. 8-Dec. 15 .The ancient Greek drama, which follows the fates of the women of Troy after their city has been sacked, their husbands killed, and as their remaining families are about to be taken away as slaves.

It is directed by Christopher Haydon and adapted by poet Caroline Bird. The play is a commentary on what follows when the world break into pieces and is overrun by anger and violence.

The cast includes Sherlock Holmes star Louise Brealey as Helen of Troy, Cassandra and Andromache, Sam Cox as Menelaus, Jon Foster as Talthybius, Dearbhla Molloy as Hecuba, Lucy Ellinson as Chorus, Tamsin Greig as goddess Athena and Roger Lloyd Pack as god Poseidon. Costumes are designed by Jason Southgate, lighting design by Mark Howland, sound design by Gareth Fry and video design by Iona Firouzabadi. The play will run from Mondays to Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.
