Cypriot Music Fills Vienna Concert Hall

A celebratory concert was held at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, as part of the Cyprus Presidency of the European Union, with the participation of two distinguished Cypriot artists, theĀ  composer, professor of musicology and pianist Savvas Savva and the internationally-acclaimed baritone Kyros Patsalides.

Savva presented his own works inspired by the Cypriot musical tradition. Then Patsalides interpreted Cypriot traditional songs and compositions of two contemporary Cypriot artists, Giorgos Karvelos and Michalis Christodoulides, accompanied on piano by Savva.

The Cypriot Ambassador, Kostas Papadimas, said that his country was the cradle of European civilization.He also pointed out that culture is a top priority of the Cyprus Presidency of the EU. Culture, he said, promotes tolerance and solidarity, multi-culturalism and knowledge.

The event, organized by the Cypriot Embassy in Austria, was attended by, among others, the President of the Austrian Upper House, Georg Kƶnig, representatives of the Austrian Government, heads of foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations in Vienna, representatives of the Greek Cypriot services in Austria and many other members of the Greek and Cypriot community.
