Schwabach in Germany and Kalambaka Celebrate Ten Years As Partner Cities

Schwabach in Germany and the Greek city of Kalambaka celebrated their 10th anniversary as partner cities.

A group of 49 people coming from Kalambaka visited Schwabach, which is situated close to Nurenberg, in order to participate in the German festival organized in association with the cities’ twinning anniversary. Mayor of Schwabach, Matthias Thuerauf, invited the Greek committee to celebrate all together, along with much beer, as would be expected.

The two cities proved their good relationship through their members’ friendly talks but also on stage by presenting dances from both cities and countries. Attendants of the event commented they were moved by the joyful climate and left financial and political differences behind.

The Greek committee visited the Federation of Thessalian Associations in Europe in order to award its president, Diamantis Gikas. They honored him for his contribution in promoting Thessaly abroad.

Mr Gikas thanked vice-mayors of Kalambaka, Iraklis Albanis and Ioannis Zaropoulos, as well as vice-president of the city council, Mr Dimitrios Vourlitsis, and invited them to attend the 9th Festival of Thessalian Associations in Europe which is planned to be held in spring 2013.
