Hatzimarkakis’ and Loter’s Proposal for a State-granted German Tourism in Greece

Mr. Hatzimarkakis, MPE of the Free Democrats Party (FDP), and the MP of the same party Ervin Loter have recently asked the German state to grant the vacations of German citizens in countries of the Southern Europe that are now in crisis.

As Mr. Hatzimarkakis stated in Bild newspaper, “the bad summer weather in Germany causes depression to people. A state aid towards German travelers willing to travel to Greece for instance, could offer financial recovery. In Greece, the sun and the sea are guaranteed.”

Mr. Hatzimarkakis also stated that the Greeks are very friendly and such trips to the South are worthy to be granted. “Such a thing would help many Germans but also countries such as Greece, that desperately need more tourists. Politics and industries could work towards the creation of such opportunities,” the MPE stated.

An expert of the German Institute of Finance (IW) in Cologne, Mr. Michael Gremling is in agreement with the proposal of Mr. Hatzimarkakis and Mr. Loter. According to him, “The Southern European States are in need of every euro being transferred into their accounts, and an increase in tourism would be a very important aid for their economies.”
