Luxembourg- J.C. Juncker Honors Greek Journalist Costa Calfelis

The Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Jean Claude Juncker, awarded the Chevalier dans l’Ordre grand-ducal de la Couronne de Chêne distinction to Greek journalist Costa Calfelis, to honor him for his 60-year-long presence in media.

The Greek journalist was honored alone among 24 figures working in several professional arenas. All the candidates for this honor awarded by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg have been successful in their respective fields and are renowned in both their country of origin and abroad for their accomplishments.

Costa Calfelis works as an editor for Le Jeudi and Tageblatt newspapers. He has also been a correspondent from Luxembourg for Greek Volos-based newspaper Tahidromos and Patras’ Kirikas, presenting cultural events held in Luxembourg or the political and diplomatic developments of the EU.

Moreover, Costa Calfelis is regarded as a reliable journalist and as a result, the state broadcasting company of Luxembourg RTL  very often broadcasts his reports on Greece’s political, social, and financial developments.

The Greek journalist was arrested and tortured during the military junta in Greece but managed to escape. He left for Europe, almost 42 years ago, to save himself from further imprisonment and over the past 20 years, he has lived in Luxembourg.
