Patriarch Bartholomew’s Name Day Celebration in Constantinople

Our Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I celebrated his name day yesterday with a special liturgy in Baloucli, Constantinople on June 10. Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos, representatives from the Greek Church and the Mosque Patriarchate under Bishop Savva Volkov of Krasnogorsk attended the feast which began with Great Vespers service in the Church of Zoodochos Pigi in Baloucli.

Metropolitans of the Ecumenical Patriarchate from across the world attended the special service where hundreds of pilgrims from Northern Greece and other countries marched. Among the attendees were Haris Lalakos, representative of the Greek Embassy in Ankara, as well as General Consul Nikos Mathioudakis. A ceremony outside the historic church marked the end to the first day celebrations.

The pilgrims and the official delegations attended a Divine Liturgy on Monday June 11 in the Saint George Church in Fanari. Patriarch Bartholomew then treated visitors who had traveled to Constantinople in honor of his name day to a special banquet.
