‘Dancing for Greece’ Event Held in Dublin

A dancing event in support of Greece and its people going through the harsh economic crisis was organized on May 27 in Dublin, downtown by the Hellenic Community in Ireland.

After disparaging comments made by the Irish Finance Minister against Greece, 32 Greeks in Ireland gathered on Grafton Street, where they danced traditional Greek dances and distributed informative printed material about the Greek crisis and about the way in which the Greek people are being treated by international media.

The solidarity event “Dancing for Greece” was joined by many Irish friends and passersby, who danced next to the Greeks and the members of the Hellenic Community and talked with them about the Greek situation.

The event aimed at presenting a different side of Greece, attracting people’s attention on the country’s debt crisis and strengthening the old solidarity and support ties between the two countries.

In its announcement, the Hellenic Community in Ireland called on all Hellenic Communities of the Diaspora to follow its lead and organize similar events in order to cause “an ecumenical Greek dancing epidemic” that will enhance solidarity towards the Greek people and help promote Greek culture abroad.
