Greek and Scottish People Living in Aberdeen Celebrate Easter

Easter in Greece is accompanied by many customs, such as lamb grilling. Greeks are everywhere; not only inside Greece, but also outside it. So, Greeks of Aberdeen in Scotland grilled their lambs yesterday to celebrate Easter the Greek way! Scottish people who love Greece and have a “Greek heart” joined them as well.

Despite being thousands of kilometers away from Greece, Scottish and Greek people living in Northern Aberdeen celebrated Orthodox Easter by grilling lambs in the scenic countryside of Aberdeen. They gathered together with friends, singing, dancing and entertaining themselves as if they were in Greece.

Apart from the celebration taking place every year on Easter Sunday, Aberdeen Scottish Hellenic Society organizes year-round events. They invite Academics to deliver speeches about subjects related to Greece, and have also started classes for people willing to learn Greek. Traditional Greek dances are also part of their program. Sometimes, they present Greek movies or documentaries about Greece, and finance it all themselves.

Aberdeen Scottish Hellenic Society was established in 1980, mostly by the Scottish, to show their great love towards Greek History, culture and natural beauty.
