Turkish Newspaper Hurriyet Apologizes and Corrects the Wrong Percentage it Reported

With a delay of 24 hours, the Hurriet Daily News corrected its mistake regarding an article which reported that 30% of Greece’s land was on sale, instead of the real percentage, namely 3%, after a letter of complaint by the Greek Privatization Organization.

“Neighboring Greece’s efforts to climb out of the economic crisis with a comprehensive privatization plan involves selling only 3 percent of Greek land, not “one-third”, as wrongly reported by the Hürriyet Daily News yesterday.

Speaking to the Daily News on the sidelines of the “Privatizations in Greece and Opportunities” meeting held in Istanbul, Panos Protopsaltis, coordinator of the Privatization Program of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRAD), said only three percent of Greek land was “for sale.” Protopsaltis also invited Turkish companies to invest in Greece.”

The article ends with the following: “The Daily News regrets the editorial error and apologizes to both Mr. Protopsaltis and its readers.”
