The historic museum of Kherson in Ukraine will inaugurate Monday an exhibition celebrating the 2,500th anniversary of the Battle of Marathon.
The commemorative exhibition of historical material from the personal collection of Mr. George Dolianitis, writer and owner of the most important collections of rare publications in Greece, will be presented earlier at the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, Odessa Branch.
The inauguration ceremony is organized by the Greek Community in Kherson. The exhibition is organized by the Greek Foreign Ministry, in association with the Greek Ministry of Culture and the help of Greece’s Embassies and Consular Authorities abroad.
The exhibition mainly focuses on the international ideological movements of the 18th and 19th centuries and in the same era, the work of poets, writers and artists who have been inspired by the battle of Marathon, as this was depicted in the books of their time.
The basic aim of the exhibition, which was first promoted in 2010, the official year of the 250tth Anniversary of the Battle of Marathon, is to highlight the importance of the ancient Greek battle in shaping the modern Western world.
The exhibition will stay open until April 1st.
