FYROM’s Greek Ambassador Contradicts Allegations of FYROM’s Minister of Foreign Affairs

The head of Greece’s Liaison Office in Skopje, Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou, contradicted later allegations of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of FYROM Nicola Poposki that “Greece is unilaterally moving towards the suspension of the intermediate agreement”.

In a written statement distributed in the press, A. Papadopoulou points out that Greece, ever since signing the intermediate agreement in 1995, willingly remains loyal to its content and has never expressed any kind of intention of suspending it.

She also remarked on the unwillingness of FYROM to accept the terms of the agreement and embrace the mutual responsibilities and obligations of the two countries. Particularly after the NATO Summit Bucharest in 2008, FYROM has pursued a hostile policy against Greece, adds the Ambassador.

The Greek government has filed plenty of demarches against the FYROM officials during the last years, explains A.Papadopoulou, suggesting that those kind of actions are downright violations of the intermediate agreement and are undermining bilateral relations. Greece has invited FYROM to participate in good faith in the negotiations concerning the reference name of the FYROM and advised it not to make humiliating remarks against Greece, adds the Ambassador.

The press of FYROM is accusing Greece of being the one not to respect and comply with the intermediate agreement, while “Macedonia” – as they call it – has never broke its terms. The newspaper “Dvevnik” also published that diplomacy officials of FYROM are unofficially expressing the view that A.Papadopoulou should not have made that public statement in FYROM’s news agencies, but should have filed a complaint in the International Court in Hague.
