The University of Bologna hosted an international symposium on Friday, March 9, presenting the first findings of the Greek-Italian seminar and study conducted in 2010 on marine antiquities under the auspices of PhD and Meduproject director Andrea Nanetti in the Messinia Prefecture of Greece.
The small islands south of Messinia are one of the most interesting areas of the Mediterranean in terms of studying and researching marine antiquities. Archaeology and landscape meet upon a unique point of international cultural heritage.
In 2010, Meduproject (for Mediterranean Cultural Heritage Projects), the cultural spin-off company of the University of Bologna, organized a summer seminar course entitled “Archaeology and Landscape of the Mediterranean”, which emphasized the study of the shipwreck off the island of Sapienza.
Professor Andrea Nanetti (professor of Byzantine History in the College Year of Athens and the Venice Ca’ Foscari University) coordinated the study of the shipwreck in collaboration with the Marine Antiquities Ephorate of the Greek Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Archaeology Department of the University of Bologna.
Meduproject is the only academic company in the field of cultural heritage in Italy conducting research and studies in history, sciences, economy and culture. It also coordinates cultural events, exhibitions, book publications and educational seminars in Italy, Greece and Egypt.
