North Germany Sends Support Package to Crisis-Hit Greeks

The “North Germany helps Greece” campaign was initiated in Frankfurt by Nikos Chatzipanagiotidi.

Working with Doctors of the World, the Greek restaurant owner is making his own effort to help Greece as much as possible, by sending his support packages: not with money, but food and other essential items, such as clothes, soap, toilet paper and toothpaste.

The thirty-three-year-old Nikos, a restaurant owner, recently gave an interview in the German newspaper “Zeit” presenting his work, which was also covered by the local press, referring to the truck full of food that started its travel to Greece from Frankfurt.

His cause is supported not only by the Greeks of Germany, but by Germans as well. “The situation in Greece is getting worse by the day”, comments N. Chatzipanagiotidis in his interview. “Even when Germans watch inappropriate images from Greece, such as the German flag being burnt,” he adds, he is still trying to explain to them the difficult situation, and many are willing to offer their help.

The truck is supposed to arrive in Greece today, while N. Chatzipanagiotidis flew to Thessaloniki earlier this morning along with his colleague, Heiner Wilcken, in order to prepare the distribution process of the first human aid package.

As mentioned on their website, “Actions speak louder than words”, and the whole effort is not guided by any political force.

The website encourages everyone who is willing to help to offer food, rice, flour, pasta etc., by publishing letters they received from the Doctors of the World urgently asking for help. Their motive is simply to support every Greek that is going through difficult times.
