Greece Joins ITB Berlin Trade Show 2012

The Greek Minister and Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pavlos Geroulanos and George Nikitiadis respectively, will represent Greece at this year’s ITB Berlin, taking place from March 7 to 11 at the Messe Berlin.

The Greek stand at the world’s leading trade show will also be visited tomorrow by the Finance Minister of Germany, Philipp Rösler.

The Greek mission will give a press conference on Thursday, while additional interviews with major German and international media have also been scheduled, as well as contacts with travel agencies and bodies of the tourist industry.

Greece’s participation in ITB Berlin 2012 aims at promoting the Greek tourist product, reversing the current cautions expressed by German tourists over travelling to the country, and restoring the latter’s reputation as a top, safe and hospitable holiday destination.

ITB 2012 is one of the leading trade shows in the world with more than 10,000 exhibitors from 187 countries and more than 110,000 international visitors.

This year, the honored country of ITB is Egypt, while the “Arab Spring” and its consequences on the tourist industry of the involved countries will be thoroughly analyzed by the ITB Convention organized within the trade show.

The Convention will also elaborate on the economic crisis’ impact on the tourism industry, with key speaker the economist Hans-Werner Sinn, President of the Ifo Institute of Economic Research of Munich.

The special feature of this year’s ITB is the “New Media Convention”, which will be attended by the administrators of tourist blogs from all around the world, in order to discuss the extent to which the Internet can shape the choice of travel destinations today.
