Manolis Glezos Tells Hurriyet: “Europeans Are Ungrateful”

Greek left wing politician and writer Manolis Glezos, known worldwide, especially for his participation in the World War II resistance, told ‘Hurriyet’ Turkish Newspaper that Europeans are ungrateful and Greece should still belong to the European Union.

After a question concerning what he believes about Germany’s behavior towards Greece, Glezos responded that it seems like Germans want to take revenge for something. “Why is there so much hate?”, Glezos asks Angela Merkel.

Moreover, Manolis Glezos stated that he does not desire Greece’s exit from the Eurozone.

Manolis Glezos said that he has never visited Turkey but he had contacts through letters with the Turk poet Nazim Hikmet, and he still keeps these letters.

On May 30, 1941, Manolis Glezos and Apostolos Santas climbed the Acropolis and tore down the swastika, which had been there since April 27, 1941, when Nazi forces had entered Athens. “Ιt is the personal responsibility of each individual to care for his homeland”, Glezos concluded.
