Meeting For Promotion Of Greek-Turkish Financial Relations

A meeting was held on Thursday between the Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister of Greece, Giorgos Nikitiadis and the Chairman of Izmir Chamber of Commerce Ekrem Demirtas, focusing on Greek-Turkish financial relations with an emphasis on the sectors of business and tourism.

Nikitiadis emphasized prospects for closer bilateral cooperation in the sea cruise sector, which can play a leading role in economic growth in both Turkey and Greece.

Operation of so-called “visa centers”, to be established in March in a handful of sites in west Turkey, are expected to facilitate visa issuance for non-EU tourists (Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian nationals etc.) wishing to visit Greece’s eastern Aegean islands.

On his part, the Chairman of Izmir Chamber of Commerce Ekrem Demirtas stated that he fully agrees with the priorities set by the Greek Culture Minister, emphasizing that the construction of a new port in Smyrna will surely bring about economic growth.

Finally, Demirtas underlined the common business-related interest that exists concerning many activities in both Turkey and Greece, such as Greek-Turkish Tourism Forums.
