Russian Orthodox Church Supports Debt-Hit Greece

The Russian Orthodox Church has officialy started a solidarity aid campaign to help the fellow Orthodox people in debt-crippled Greece.

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has called for the gathering of donations from all orthodox churches around the country and aims at financially supporting the Greek people in need.

Furthermore, during his meeting with New Democracy president Antonis Samaras in Moscow Thursday, the Patriarch expressed his admiration towards the Greek Orthodox church for taking up initiatives to help the Greek people and assured the Greek politician of his fellow countrymen’s compassion for the harsh times plaguing Greece.

According to the Russian Patriarch, the two countries’ Orthodox Churches are cooperating in establishing a wide network providing help and support to the suffering people of the Mediterranean country.
