Metropolitan Arsenios of Austria Attends Customary Cutting of Vasilopita In Vienna

The customary cutting of Vasilopita (new year’s cake) was celebrated at an event organized by the Macedonia Intercultural Association in Vienna, attended by the new Metropolitan of Austria and Exarch of Hungary and Mid-Europe, Arsenios, and Greek and Cypriot agencies’ and organizations’ representatives in Austria, led by the Greek Ambassador, Dimitris Daskalakis, as well as notable members of the Greek Diaspora and Greek origin town councilor and member of the local Chamber of Vienna, Hannes Harvanek.

The event was opened by the Intercultural Association’s President and well known businessman in Vienna, Harilaos Zikos, wishing for a constructive and creative collaboration in 2012 and committment to continue the association’s events and activities for the new year.

In his opening address, the Metropolitan of Austria, Arsenios, emphasized the significance of Greek presence in Vienna and said that it is necessary that Greek organizations and unions cooperate in these difficult times that Greece is facing.

Among the primary objectives of the Macedonia Intercultural Association, established in late 1993 by members of the Greek Diaspora in Vienna, are the coordination of activities for the promotion of Greek views and interests on national issues, especially on the Macedonian issue, as well as the creation and preservation of contacts with political and intellectual figures, media representatives and notable figures in Austria shaping public opinion.

Among the Intercultural Association’s broader goals are the presentation and promotion of Greek culture, Greek history and tradition, and establishing closer relations with the homeland and Greeks worldwide. Towards this end, the Association holds various events to promote its mess
