“Nude” Exhibition by Eva Karydi at London Ambika P3 Gallery

Corfu-born artist Eva Karydi will be presenting her debut exhibition at the 14,000 square feet, triple height, subterranean space of London gallery Ambika P3 (35 Marylebone Road) from Thursday, January 12, to Sunday, January 22, 2012.

“Nude” is an exhibition dedicated to how time affects the human condition. It consists of two site-specific, multimedia, interactive iron labyrinths that unwind over the spectacular gallery.

The first one is in the Cretan fashion with a one-way path leading to the core where there is a video projection. The second is a deconstructed labyrinth with a path through iron blocks with 20 unique life-sized plaster human sculptures, each about 1.6 meters in height.

The visitor proceeds through the corridor surrounded by iron walls and sound flows from the labyrinth’s depths compelling one to continue the journey straight ahead.

Award-wining sculpture Eva Karydi lives and works in Corfu. She grew up watching her father painting, and this is how she was inducted in the world of art. Over time she realized that colors were not her personal way of expressing. She wanted more than that. Later she travelled to Paris and studied in the renowned “Academie Julian” where she came in touch with sculpture and the three-dimensional work.

It’s a free entry exhibition open to the general public with an ‘invite-only’ preview evening taking place on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 from 6pm – 9pm.
