It was agreed in September 2011 that a special unit would be set up at consulates in Germany to issue Greek ID cards to the diaspora and in December another was announced for Cyprus. Now, the process for the issuance of Greek ID cards has been put into action in both countries.
This new regulation gives the opportunity to diaspora Greeks of Cyprus and Germany to issue a Greek ID card in their place of residence after filling applications to the consulate authorities.
Greek police authorities contribute to the speeding up of this process by having dispatched 18 police officers in Germany and Cyprus for 3 months.
Police officers will handle applications for Greek ID cards and passports’ issuance.The dispatch of the experienced police officers aims to help the General Consulates concerning their work on ID cards’ applications.
