The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus has announced the election of Archimandrite Chrysostomos Ykkotis as the new Metropolitan of Kyrenia.
The new Metropolitan was elected with 9 votes for him, while Gregory Bishop of Mesaoria received 6 votes and Archimandrite Venedictos Ioannis receive 1 vote.
The new Metropolitan thanked the Holy Synod but refused to directly answer the question of what he will do in case the Cyprus Problem is solved, given the fact that his Church is in the Turkish part of the island.
