Prefect of Istanbul Meets with Ecumenical Patriarch

On Friday, November 11, 2011, His All Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew met with His Excellency Mr. Huseyin Avni Mutlu, prefect of Istanbul.

The two men met in a warm and friendly atmosphere and the visit was initiated by the Prefect’s wish to congratulate Bartholomew on the 20th anniversary from his election to the Patriarchate Throne.

Mr. Mutlu pointed out that he had congratulate His All Holiness on the phone at the very same day of the anniversary but was not able to attend the celebrating dinner due to pending obligations. “Today I came personally to wish many years of healthy and peaceful life to the Patriarch, so he can continue his excellent work” said Mr. Mutlu.

According to the Turkish prefect, bilateral meetings are very important for Turkey.

The two men discussed environmental issues and Mr. Mutlu congratulated the Patriarch for his ecological activities and initiatives.

This is the second time the current prefect of Istanbul pay visit to the Patriarchate. His first visit was on September 16, 2010, after having taken office in March 2010. The first Turkish prefect to have ever visited the Patriarchate was Mr. Mutlu predecessor Mr. Muammer Guler.
