Greek Painters Come to Berlin

The exhibitions of Alekos Fassianos and Yiannis Psychopedis are being shown in Berlin in galleries located in East and West Berlin.

Schroeder Street in the centre of East Berlin has become a cradle of significant art galleries.  Camilla Herrmann also opened her gallery there this week, presenting artworks of Alekos Fassianos. Herrman worked with Alekos Fassianos in Paris in the past, organizing exhibitions for the artist worldwide. Alekos Fassianos’ exhibition consists of lithographs, etchings and mostly collage paintings.

In comparison with the centre of East Berlin that has adopted the “gentrification” according to which a poorer area is converted into a richer, West Berlin still maintains a balance that leaves unchanging its traditional character through the majority of hard-working people and immigrants.

After his two previous exhibitions in 1985 and 2002, Yiannis Psychopedis is presenting his artworks for the third time in Gallery im Körnerpark in West Berlin. It is about a section of a whole exhibition titled “Nostos”(Return), with paintings from the last 10 years.

According to the Professor of the History of Art, Stefanie Endlich, this year the political nature of the artworks is prevalent.
