Letter from the Federation of Associations of Greek Parents to Minister of Education

The Federation of Associations of Greek Parents in Germany has sent a letter to the Greek Minister of Education, Mrs. Anna Diamantopoulou and the Deputy Minister, Mrs. Fofi Gennimata about the bill on “Greek Language Education Abroad”.

The letter is very judgmental over the Ministry’s policies and among others refers to the regulation about the access of Greek graduates from abroad to the Greek tertiary education.

“Higher Education Institutions (AEI) and Institutes of Professional Training (IEK) will be the ones to decide over the matriculation rate of incoming Greek students, who have completed at least 10 years of secondary education at schools abroad, as well as the tuition fees they will have to pay…”

In its letter, the Federation also underlines that it is not being clarified what is to happen with the 3% for Greek schools abroad, while it caustically stresses out a certain point in the bill providing that “students matriculating in Greek AEI, TEI and IEK institutions, whether of Greek ethnic origin or not, will receive a residence permit according to the terms and conditions set by the legal framework of 2005”. The Federation commented: “In our own country we do not need a residence permit”.
