Greek Fashion Designer Marina Kereklidou Excels in Sweden

Marina Kereklidou may not be a recognizable name in Greece, but she is a well known fashion personality in Sweden. She has worked both as a fashion designer and a stylist, as well as art director, in various companies.

Between 1997 and 2001, she successfully managed her own fashion brand ”Kereklidou”, for which she created thirteen collections and was named “Designer of the Year” by Swedish Elle. During her career, she has been commissioned to design clothes and videos for a number of Swedish and international artists. Among these are the Cardigans, Nina Persson’s A Camp, Britney Spears, Kent, Robyn, BWO, and Helena Paparizou. As she stated: ”I make clothes for real women, not celebrities.”

She graduated from Beckman’s College of Design in Stockholm and now serves as mentor for graduates of the school. She designs clothes, campaigns, and videos and has worked with artists, magazines, and television stations. She has also participated in exhibitions in galleries in Stockholm such as the Wetterling Gallery, combining art with fashion. The French fashion house Busnel chose her to design its women’s collections.

The Greek designer created a new collection for autumn-winter 2011-12, launching casual clothes, especially knitwear, and clothing that can be worn outside the catwalk, which is not always self-evident in the fashion world. If there is something that characterizes her work, it is the way it has come to combine femininity with masculinity. Her background as a designer has given her a unique eye for the tailored, for structure and volume. Since she has also worked as a model, she is deeply familiar with all aspects of the industry. These days her clients include H&M, Lindex, Björn Borg, Absolut Vodka, Coca-Cola, Mio, and NK. She is also fashion editor at the prestigious fashion and cultural magazine Bon.
