Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Attends Muslim Dinner

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew talking about meaning of fasting and its spiritual dimensions, in a speech he gave during a dinner (Iftar, in  which Muslims break their fast)  hosted by Mayor Ahmet Misbah Demircan’s historic district of Pera (Beyoglu).

”In Islam, fasting is a necessary precondition, as is in other religions, too”, said the Patriarch in his speech, adding that it is the responsibility of religious leaders to transfuse knowledge to new generations regarding fasting.

The Ecumenical Patriarch, who was invited by the mayor to attend the dinner, noted in his speech that it is the responsibility of religious leaders to transfuse knowledge to new generations about the meaning, purpose and benefits of fasting.

He urged everyone to pray for the relief of the families who lost their loved ones during the recent attack in Norway and everywhere else in the world. The Muslim Iftar was organized by the famous Galata Dervish Tekke (mevlevihane).
