Tributes to Nobel Prize Winner Odysseus Elytis

The year 2011 was declared by the Ministry of Culture as Elytis year, as 100 years have passed since the birth of the Nobel prize winning poet. The Hellenic Foundation of Culture honors the poet and organizes events in several participating countries with the purpose of making the work of Elytis known internationally.

The events will begin in October 2011 in Odessa, and Belgrade  on November 2nd, the birthday of the poet.  The tributes will continue in Berlin, Sofia, Bucharest, Tiran, Alexandria, Rome and finally, in December, in Trieste and Venice.
The events will be organised in cooperation with the Italian Centre of the Hellenic Foundation of Culture at the University La Sapienza of Rome, the University Ca’ Foscari of Venice, the University of Trieste, and the Greek Community of Trieste, overseen by the Ambassador of Greece in Italy and the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.

Some of the scheduled tributes are:

ROME (21-30 November 2011) Presentation of the literature and plastic arts work of Elytis, along with all the Italian publications regarding the poet and his work.

Round Table on the topic “Italy honors Elytis: witnesses and thoughts of the greatest Italian translators of his work”, like Mario Vitti, Vincenzo Rotolo, Nicola Crocetti, Massimo Cazzulo and Paola Maria Minucci.

Presentation of the two new Italian editions of Elytis poetry translated and edited by Paola Maria Minucci of the anthology entitled “E presto ancora”(It is still early) and the anthology entitled “Il metodo del dunque” (The method of therefore) by Donzelli publications, 2011.
