Rise in Searches for Greek Property

A new poll by foreign exchange firm Moneycorp has found that searches for property in Greece rose 21.7% in June, amid the eurozone debt crisis.
Internet searches for some regions, such as Rhodes and Samos, were up 50% during the month, the figures showed.
Italy, Spain and Turkey also witnessed an increase in interest from potential buyers, while searches for property in Croatia were 17% higher.
However, New Zealand witnessed a fall in searches for properties.
The study also found that a rise in interest was recorded by 53.4% of places in June.
The highest number of searches was witnessed in Spain, while France, the US and Portugal were also popular.
Olann Kerrison, senior currency analyst at Moneycorp, said bargain-hunting Britons showed higher interest in Greek properties in June as they were alerted “to the potential that the Greek housing market might hold in the future, once the economy is in a healthier state and the Government achieves stability”.
