Germans Give Emphasis on Greece’s Solar Energy

According to Wolfgang Schäuble, the promotion of privatizations, reforms in labor relations and investments in the private sector are the cornerstone of development in Greece.

Particular emphasis is given to solar energy, not only because he believes that Greece has inexhaustible resources in this field of investments, but also because Germany is increasingly turning to alternative forms of energy. And this is related to two major factors which determine largely the future of the German economy.

The first is the gradual distancing of Berlin from nuclear energy. The second reason relates to the development and exploitation of German energy expertise, which is now a product of high demand in the context of the global “energy shift” and international commitments to reduce greenhouse gases that cause global warming. Germany closes its nuclear plants one after another in a time horizon of ten years.
In that period, Germany should replace electricity by other energy sources. ”The aim of the German government is to lower the costs of alternative forms of energy”, noted Former Finance Minister Rainer Bruederle.
“Greece has many more hours of sunshine than Germany and could export solar energy to us. The Greek economy would thus have a competitive export product”, the German minister stated a few weeks ago. But he knows that the export of solar energy from Greece to Germany and the rest of Europe will not bring resources to Athens in the near future, because Greece does not have the appropriate infrastructure at the moment.
The German expert on solar energy commented in a recent interview that investment in photovoltaic systems were particularly attractive because of their high price per kilowatt hour offered in Greece (35-44 minutes, 21-28 minutes in Germany).
The construction of high voltage pipelines, through which energy is transferred from the installations of North Africa to Europe has been planned long term, under the “initiative Desertec”. “One of these pipelines will cross over Greece, but the construction will take many years and is still a technological and economic challenge,” stated the German scientist.
In conclusion, the German interest is intense and aims at a ” win-win transaction”. The investing activity of German businessmen will bring new capitals to Greece, which are urgently needed, and simultaneously guarantees “clean”energy sources for Germany in the future that will replace the losses from the closure of nuclear plants.
